Five PDP lawmakers demand reinstatement of suspended Rivers council chairman

The lawmakers insist that the suspension of the chairman and 17 councillors of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council is illegal.
Five Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, who are opposed to the suspension of the chairman and 17 councillors of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, have demanded a reversal of the suspension.
The 32-member assembly suspended Timothy Nsirim, Chairman of the Obio/Akpo Council and 17 councillors for alleged financial misappropriation and security breach.
Addressing newsmen on Monday in Port Harcourt, one of the lawmakers, Micheal Amaewhule, representing Obio/Akpo Constituency 1, called for the reversal of the suspension.
He said that the suspension was not carried out in line with due process.
Another lawmaker, Michael Chinda, representing Obio/Akpo Constituency 11, described the suspension as `illegal.'
He said that the allegations levelled against the chairman and councillors were neither debated nor investigated by the House before the pronouncement was made.
The other three PDP legislators, who attended the briefing were Evans Bipi of Ogu/Bolo Constituency, Kelechi Wogu of Omuma Constituency and Victor Ihunwo of Port Harcourt Constituency 111.
The five lawmakers are believed to be those opposed to Governor Rotimi Amaechi and whom the Commissioner of Information, Ibim Semenitari, has accused of plotting to impeach Mr. Amaechi.
